Well done to all the people who put in entries to our competition this year. We had 38 different art-works this year and they were wonderful. A big team of judges picked out the following 8 projects which were sent on to the S.D.D.C competition. They will be on display in The County Hall in Tallaght.
Fifi's Christmas Tree, made from recycled bottles Kuba and Filip's recycled can tree Ryan Morris's Egg- Box Christmas Tree Freya and Lacey's Christmas Tree also made from plastic bottles Channelle's lovely Christmas Wreath Rebecca Maguire's Angel made from a book Andrea's Christmas Tree Denis's plate of cookies. It has been busy in the school garden, with out recent good weather everything has been growing well. We have lettuce, peas, potatoes , onions , carrots and scallions growing.
Well done to all the helpers! As a result of the fantastic effort made by students for National SOW day the school received a scooter rack. It was almost full on its first day. We look forward to seeing many students scouting on a daily basis.
A new wormery has been installed in the garden area and we have begun composting our fruit and vegetable waste there. The Committee are currently working on ideas to allow classes to compost their own waste.
Click on images to enlarge. We had a visit from Aoife Munn during Eco Awareness week. She worked with classes to make their own compostable pots and planted lots of flower seeds.
We had a very successful SOW day in our school on Wednesday 14th of March despite the inclement weather. Ninety-six children came to school on their scooters (this was 43% of the children who own scooters). Can you spot yours? On the 5th of October the Green School Committee and members of the Clean and Green Team held an opening ceremony of the new silver birch wooded area.
The trees which were planted by the Clean and Green team were sponsored by students and staff in the school. The trees have been officially labelled to represent their sponsor and past pupils are welcome back any time to check on the growth of their tree. The ceremony coincided with National Tree Day. If anyone is interested in sponsoring a tree, please see Ms. Conlon in Room 15. The children from Ms Harrington and Ms Long's class had a busy morning harvesting their carrots. They washed the carrots , removed the skin and had them for lunch with some cheese dip! |
